  Global and Active Citizenship in Japan and the United States: An Intercultural and Inter-curricular Education for Sustainable Development Project
■ 概要
  This paper reports on the progress of the Education for Sustainable Development Peace Project, an interdisciplinary curriculum development and exchange project between Sapporo Odori High School in Japan and Louisiana State University Laboratory School (LSU) in the United States.Odori teachers evaluated the interdisciplinary curriculum and working relationships with LSU teachers highly and reported that students were active learners, as well as that students’ attitudes and respect for others from diverse backgrounds had improved. Despite mainstream Japanese pedagogy’s focus on a knowledge based, fixed course of study, the success of this project suggests that these kind of interdisciplinary projects can be carried out on a small scale.
